Computer games are among the most profitable branches of entertainment industry nowadays, and computer games soundtracks are more and more often played in prestigious concert halls. The subject of the lecture will therefore be music in games – its history and the functions it plays in modern productions. We will look at and listen to groundbreaking technologies and games that have set standards for modern composers and sound engineers. We will see some exciting examples of how music affects the player, and we will also look for similarities and differences with film music, in which video game soundtracks have their roots.
